August 8-12, 2011  |  Clark Kerr Center, University of California-Berkeley  |  Berkeley

The Summer Institute has changed! It now features content for seasoned researchers, as well as those new to the California community college system. Come for either three or five days, depending on the content that best fits your interests.

Summer Institute I: Strengthening Efficiency and Reporting

August 8-10, 2011 (includes welcome dinner and lodging on August 7)

This three-day institute will highlight key research tasks such as utilizing state data tools, managing cohort tracking, implementing departmental surveys, communicating research results, and ensuring data consistency. This session is designed to build increased efficiency and share standard operating procedures for a broad range of common activities. This training will be valuable for those who are new to their position, new to California community colleges, or are seeking greater operational efficiency in these resource-scarce times.

Summer Institute II: Leading Institutional Research

August 10-12, 2011(includes welcome dinner and lodging on August 9)

This three-day institute will provide a framework for addressing the competing demands on research office leaders such as managing workload, building strong relationships with various campus constituencies, and accountability and ethics issues when presenting data that will be used in budgeting and planning. This session will place an emphasis on understanding where your research office fits into the campus, the community college system, and the national debate. This training will be valuable for those seeking to build their leadership capabilities and to learn effective approaches being implemented at IR offices of various sizes and configurations around the state.
